On December 2 and 3, the telemetry team, consisting of researchers from the NCC and the Natural History Museum of Crete, successfully radio-tagged vultures at the acclimatization cage in Gergeri. Over 30 birds were safely trapped, allowing the specialized researchers to attach 28 GSM/GPS transmitters. The data will contribute to the systematic monitoring of vulture flights throughout Crete, with particular emphasis on the area around the new Heraklion airport. The collection of telemetry data will enable the analysis of flight paths, altitudes, and seasonal movements of birds, providing a complete picture of their behavior patterns. The project will contribute to the development of an effective Wildlife Hazard Management Plan for the safe operation of the new Heraklion airport.
