Dr. Xirouchakis is a biologist specializing in bird conservation, with over 25 years of professional experience. He has been working at the Natural History Museum of Crete since 1998 and has been a member of the academic staff of the Laboratory of the School of Sciences and Engineering at the University of Crete since 2004. He has coordinated and participated in more than 20 research and management projects, focusing on the ecology of birds of prey, the conservation of seabirds and priority species, and the assessment of bird populations in both terrestrial and marine ecosystems. His experience includes monitoring programs related to the development of wind farms, including assessments of birdlife in sensitive areas and the identification of exclusion zones for the protection of birds of prey.
Dr. Xirouchakis has worked on projects involving important bird areas and mapping marine bird habitats, supporting appropriate spatial planning for marine infrastructure. His scientific work includes over 60 publications and participation in more than 80 scientific conferences, and he continues to publish articles on the ecology of seabirds, migration, and conservation program design.
