The NCC had undertaken a survey of the status of important fauna species in the West Patraikos concession area. To achieve this objective, NCC carried out:

(a) Coastal surveys and systematic monitoring of breeding sites of the Mediterranean monk seal.

(b) Coastal surveys of nesting sites of seabirds and monitoring of their movements using telemetry.

(c) Pelagic surveys for marine mammals, seabirds and sea turtles, through surveys from a sea-going vessel and in combination with aerial surveys.

(d) Seabird colony surveys.
