EBS for Offshore Wind Farms

ASSIGNING AGENCY:

EDEYEP

YEAR:

2023-2024

DESCRIPTION:

In collaboration with LDK, as part of the SEA for Offshore Wind Farms in Greece, NCC undertook the recording of ornithological sensitivities of the country’s candidate Offshore Wind Farms. As part of this study, international literature and effective practices for mitigating impacts on biodiversity were reviewed, and specific measures and actions were proposed.

In collaboration with EDEYEP, NCC undertook in 2024 to conduct field surveys for the wider area of Alexandroupolis and Samothrace in order to create a preliminary reference base regarding the sensitivity of the area in terms of birdlife and marine mammals. These recordings included visual and audio recordings from a boat, as well as aerial recordings. At the same time, information from submerged hydrophones and recordings from drones were used. At this stage, NCC is the only Greek company with experience in this specific field.

With the appropriate equipment, partners, expertise, and experience in recording seabirds and marine mammals, and in collaboration with specialized companies from the Netherlands, such as Waardenburg Ecology and WaterProof, NCC can provide high-level services in ecological research related to offshore wind farms.
