Special Ecological Assessments were carried out for the Thrace Independent Natural Gas System (ASFA) in the Natura 2000 sites GR1110006, GR1110007 and GR1110013.

The project includes a floating LNG receiving, storage and gasification plant, as well as an undersea and onshore gas transmission pipeline to interconnect with the National Gas Transmission System.

As part of this study, specialised fieldwork was carried out from the sea and air to record marine mammals, sea turtles and seabirds. Particular emphasis was placed on the monitoring of the harbour porpoise, while hydrophones were used to record the general presence of marine mammals and to estimate underwater noise.
