Dr. Rees is a marine ecologist with over 30 years of experience, specializing in sea turtle ecology, conservation biology, and environmental assessment. He has served as scientific lead on numerous marine biodiversity projects, including several involving satellite telemetry, drone monitoring, and impact assessment in the context of coastal and offshore infrastructure development. His work spans the Mediterranean, Middle East, and Indian Ocean, with direct contributions to EU LIFE projects, marine protected area (MPA) management, and renewable energy consultations.

Dr. Rees has collaborated with international organizations, supporting decision-making in sensitive marine habitats. He has coordinated studies on sea turtles in relation to marine spatial planning, strategic environmental assessments, and biodiversity baseline assessments for offshore projects, including renewable energy installations. He is regional vice-chair of the IUCN-SSC Marine Turtle Specialist Group and an active scientific contributor to management plans, policy frameworks, and long-term species monitoring efforts.
