ASSIGNING AGENCY:
DEI S.A.
YEAR:
2024-2025
DESCRIPTION:
Ecological Baseline Study for recording the state of biodiversity in the wider area of the Amyntaio Mine/PPC SA
In the context of the Biodiversity Baseline Survey and in compliance with the EBRD guidelines, a field surveys plan has been developed consisted from six (6) Thematic Ecological Surveys (THES) to record the bird fauna, other fauna (reptiles, amphibians, mammals, bats, invertebrates) and flora, habitats and ecosystem services. The survey plan included sampling protocols and specifications.
The ongoing field surveys have a duration of 12 months, to cover all seasons for a full year period.
Based on the results of the ongoing surveys, the important and critical biodiversity features of the area (Priority Biodiversity Features) will be identified, the restoration potential of the area will be assessed, based on the approved plan, and specific restoration guidelines will be proposed for an area of >1,900 hectares. Rehabilitation principles and practices that have been successfully applied in similar cases in countries such as Great Britain will be applied.
The Baseline Studies are implemented in collaboration with the Agricultural University of Athens, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Harokopio University, the University of Ioannina, ELGO DEMETRA, and specialist scientists under the coordination of the NCC.
