Dr. Gordon is a marine biologist specializing in cetaceans with 40 years of experience studying marine mammals, with a focus on whales and seals. He has led government-funded research on mitigation strategies and is a consultant to both academia and industry on marine mammal conservation. Throughout his career, he has developed a keen interest in the design and implementation of passive acoustic tools for the study of marine mammals\u2014tools that support population assessment, behavior analysis, and impact mitigation efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Gordon’s interest in tidal stream habitats, particularly in understanding how cetaceans (primarily seals) use these habitats and how to measure key ecological indicators, began with a project funded by the Welsh Government off the coast of Anglesey in 2009. Since then, this work has evolved through a series of programs supported by Marine Scotland and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). Complementing his academic work, he leads a small consulting company that provides research and impact mitigation services and specializes in the development, manufacture, and supply of hydrophone systems for use by researchers and industry professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
